Deadline Extended!

The final deadline for applications to the RSS Digital Projection Equipment Grants scheme has been extended to 30th June 2009 . Applications can be submitted at any time up till that date, but please note that as they are considered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, the scheme fund may be fully committed before the June deadline.

Small Scale Digital Projection Equipment Grants

Readily available digital technology now makes it possible to offer a highly effective screening experience for film clubs and other community groups, with the use of a good quality digital projector, DVD Player, surround sound system and screen. However, such equipment will only make its full impact if installed in a suitable venue, ie with comfortable seating, good sightlines, an effective black-out, and an appropriate acoustic. Moreover, such equipment will only be used to its fullest advantage if there are the right mechanisms in place to construct an attractive screening programme, and attract appropriate audiences.

This scheme is intended to assist film clubs, community groups, and other bodies seeking to present a planned annual programme of DVD screenings.

Investment is available to purchase capital equipment up to a maximum cost of £5,000.   Full information on the funding scheme and how to apply, click here.

Those wishing to purchase a higher grade of equipment, for more frequent use or in larger venues, should apply to the complementary Scottish Screen scheme for Mid Scale and Large Scale equipment grants.

Other Funding

Another source of capital funds for community groups is the National Lottery Awards For All scheme. With a normal top limit per application of £10,000, this scheme is ideal for the purchase of equipment which will be of immediate and obvious benefit to an entire community. 

Groups out with the Highland Council areas should approach Arts Officers anyway, as there may be small pots of funding available for film societies. Whilst Local Authoriites would rarely provide capital funding, they may be able to provide support for specific activities, such as screening children's films.

Groups in the NEAT area - Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen and Moray - may be eligible for support for screenings or events through the NEAT Guarantee Against Loss scheme details on the NEAT site

UK Film Council and Scottish Screen are not currently offering support directly to individual groups, but they have in the past, and there may be new rounds of funding in the future. As Virtual Film Club learns of new opportunities, we will post them here, so keep checking back!
