Regional Screen Scotland
Regional Screen Scotland is being established, through a collaboration between Scottish Screen and HI~Arts, to act as the ‘Rural Cinema Hub’ proposed in Scottish Screen’s Exhibitions Strategy, launched in May 2007. The initiative will see communities find their own best way of gaining the cinema experience and work will cover the whole of Scotland but will bring unique expertise in rural cinema provision. The assumptions behind the establishment of RSS are that film is a crucial contemporary artform, and that therefore access to the cinema experience should be available throughout Scotland. Currently, outside of the major urban areas, provision is patchy, despite the efforts of the commercial cinema, film societies, the Screen Machine and local authorities. The objective of RSS therefore is to use whatever means it has at its disposal, in concert with other bodies and agencies, to ensure that access to a cinema experience of the highest quality becomes available to all of the citizens of Scotland.
